YASIR NISAR
YASIR NISAR talks to super model, MEHREEN SYED about her career in the fashion industry
From ramp model to fashion diva Pakistan fashion industry has truly come of age. Model Mehreen Syed in a very short span of time has achieved unmatchable fame. Her catwalk is remarkable. She has a large fan following. Barely five years in the industry Mehreen, who hails from Lahore, is well on her way to the top. That?s probably because with a no-nonsense attitude like her?s that spells professionalism. But, then again, there?s more to her than just her pretty face. And this is where she talks about it all.
Here, the damsel talks about being listed on Asian chart, her modeling projects, and her future plans. Mehreen Syed a go-getter, showed-off her beautiful straight black hair; truly relaxed and normal about her successful career in modeling, the lass has just been back after a shot by Ather Shehzad and she was truly excited about that. She is today known as one of the top most models on ramp and print right now. The doe eyed girl is roaring in the fashion scene right now with her international fashion shows, which have undoubtedly brought her in the top slot. Besides been listed in Top 50 Asian women, she also had won the title of Face Of The Year (FOTY) 2007 a couple of years back. Getting listed in the Top 50 women of Asia is something that not many Pakistani models have got the chance to, but she is quite overjoyed on this success. Right away she stated, "I am quite content with the way my career has shaped in all those years and I'm just happy that it did well."
Just back in town after doing innumerable fashion shows in UK, USA, Malaysia, Turkey and Brunei, she is now gearing up for Lahore Fashion week. Mehreen stated, ?I am basically a ramp model and I love to be a part of it. It is so much fun every time to be on the ramp. The best part of the ramp shows is that they are happening. That is why I love to be on ramp and have been able to make my mark in the ramp.?
Despite, the very fact that fashion scene in the last couple of years has been badly affected by the terrorism attacks, Mehreen is proud to be a part of Karachi Fashion week. ?I love my work and that is why I do it, this is our life and we want to present a different picture of Pakistan in front of the whole world. It was a very different experience doing this fashion week in such circumstances but I am glad to be a part of it. I am now looking forward for the Lahore Fashion week due next month,? she commented.
Interestingly enough, in contrast to other models, she is the only model who has been selected twice for Bridal Asia in India. ?I loved the feeling of representing my own country in Bridal Asia. The Indian fashion world was amazing and those people are very professional and working for Bridal Asia proved to be a memorable experience.?
Though, Mehreen did a few plays and telefilms in her initial career, she has stopped doing any in the recent years, the reason being she has been busy with her modeling assignments. ?I am focusing my attention towards modeling and fashion and plans to continue it further. I am not focusing on doing any TV projects because of my busy schedule and shows in foreign countries.?
Lately she was in news for having signed up an Indian movie, and it made great waves on the local scene, but she denied having signed a project like that. But now she affirms that there is a project, which she is going to do this year in India.
She is all praise to Ather Shehzad, who guided her and brought the best out of her. ?The credit of my whole success goes to Ather Shehzad and his team. They have taught and launched me and made me successful in a very short time. They are my role models and I feel lucky to have worked for them.?
While answering to commercial projects and monetary concerns, she chuckled, "most people who know me, know that I only take very few commercial projects, because I do what I can handle and don?t do just for the sake for a project. I just like to do selective work and that is why I don?t sign up everything that comes my way. I don?t want to get overexposed; that is the basic reason behind not taking every single project that comes my way?.
She then talked about the ephemeral nature of success, especially in this profession. "There is no success without failure," she expounded. "And when you get success you can't take it seriously. That's one thing I've learnt. Enjoy the success but don't take it seriously. So you have to just believe in yourself and keep at it."
Mehreen clears the misconception that most of the people have about models. ?The comments that people give about modeling and fashion should change. People should change their minds and attitude towards fashion. It is not the exposure or display of bodies but of attire. People have a lot of misconception about this field but believe that it is very good. It depends only on how you perceive and find it. Parents should appreciate their sons and daughters who enter the field of modeling,? the ramp diva was of the view.
Mehreen has come a long way since she began her career as a model. She is now a known face among the masses and popular among the young generation. After her success in the local fashion industry she may also shine on the international scene.
